I guess to start out this blog posting series I should talk about what I've been up to this week so let's start out with some of the basics.
- Video Games
So far this week has been insane in terms of video games as we just had the Summer Games Fest which even though the primary show had a bunch of stinkers and ??? games that just didn't look fun there were a few hits in there. Some highlights included Resident Evil 9, Lies of P DLC, Dying Light: The Beast, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver, Scott Pilgrim EX, Stranger Than Heaven, ILL, Mouse: P.I. for Hire, and Into the Unwell. Also I wasn't really able to catch the Sony press conference so I'm not gonna comment on it but I did hear they brought their A Game so that's pretty good for those folks.
Now in terms of games I've actually played this week, my entire schedule was taken up by Deltarune and Elden Ring: Nightreign. I'll talk about Nightreign first cause oh my goodness I've got like 20 different things to talk about Deltarune. Overall Nightreign has been a blast to play. I kept hearing that it was a "Dark Souls Rogue-lite style game with a closing ring" and it's like motherfucker that is just fortnite but now it's Elden Ring like it's not that hard to describe two of the biggest franchises out there mashed together. But I've been enjoying my time with it, primarily as the Raider and Ironeyes class as Ironeyes is just super busted and Raider lets me go and swing big weapon and bonk while also having lots of HP which is usually how I like playing those games. I think my only complaint is that I think there should be more clarity on the weapon scalings. Like they have a menu in the game that supposed to show more details and all it does is show what the weapon arts do and not how the weapons scales, which if you get an enchantment on it, can drastically swap the scaling on a weapon and make it borderline useless. But yeah overall the game is definitely worth the $40 and I hope with future patches they start adding in other items from the DLC and also add other bosses from other games.
Now let's talk Deltarune cause oh my god that game is so fucking good. I think that game altered my brain chemistry with how good it was like the characters, the setting for both chapters, the story, just the raw, emotional differences between chapter 3 and 4, the killer soundtrack, like it's such a good game. If you haven't played it you have to go try it. Like booting up the game and knowing what Toby Fox could do in the game and then seeing ↓ THIS MOTHERFUCKER ↓ show up I was just blown away.

Like it was so crazy going from chapter 3 where for the most part it's alot of good and gaffs that, minus the ending, is a standard affair for the chapters we've experienced up to this point and then the last fight of the chapter happens and you just get slapped in the face and get told LOCK IN SOLIDER THIS IS NO TIME FOR FUN AND GAMES. Then chapter 4 happens and then you realize that this is a serious quest with serious implications for the world and that it will not be easy and you will be emotionally broken if you aren't strong enough. It has some of the best character and story developments in the game so far and was a perfect midway point cliffhanger to leave us on to be excited for when chapter 5 drops in 2026. It also introduced one of my favorite characters in the game, Gerson, who fits like every single one of my boxes for characters I like which is grizzled old man who after accomplishing what he wanted in life, dedicates himself to teaching the youth but still has that same cockiness that got him his title and can turn that killer instinct back on when the moment is right. Like that character type just gets me so hyped and seeing him be so integral to Susie's development as a character made me smile so much.
- Music
Ok now that that long section is outta the way let's talk about music. This week I listened to the album Sling by Clairo which overall was a fun little project. Was a very chill little folk / soft rock album that was not as good as her most recent album, but that's fine as she's been steadily getting better with each release that she's been putting out. Also while I was doing this album for the weekly review I've been getting more into my Prog Rock / Jazz Rock bag with some King Crimson and also this one record from the Argentinian rock group Seru Giran called "La Grasa de las Capitales" which was really good when I listened to it. I've always been a fan of bands that have been able to have a really technical rock sounds but somehow be able to incorporate a wind instrument like a trumpet or a saxophone to match up with it like what you hear in King Crimson's "Starless". Makes for a really unique contrast and dynamic range of sounds that covers all bases. Like I just want to inject the last like 2 minutes of Starless' saxophone section where it matches the guitar in this really hauntingly beautiful final push of the main motif and just inject that into my veins like it gives me chills every time.
